Cúrandir

08485055During the Years of the Trees, after the Valar had withdrawn from Middle-earth and hidden themselves in Aman, Oromë the Huntsman still hunted in the forests of Middle-earth on occasion. Thus, he was the one who found the Elves when they awoke at Cuiviénen, and was the first to name them the Eldar. Seeking to ensure their safety, Oromë accompanied the Elves from Cuiviénen to Beleriand. 10544031It is plausible that in the long years it took the Quendi to traverse Middle Earth, Orome may have instructed them to perfect the art of survivability, by teaching them how to hunt, tan leather, and woodcrafting. The making of bows, just like swords has a dear place in the hearts of every craftsman. Especially in the morning of the Quendi, when metallurgy still was an unexplored art hunters would make their own weapons, like this elf maiden. Cúrandir she named her weapon, the Bow of the Wanderer (Sindarin, Cu: bow, randir: wanderer, traveller), of thin frame, light and delicately decorated. She is a skilled bow maiden, keen of sight and fast of draw even on horseback. She has a few rudimental knives with her, but ever uses them to fashion clothes from leather rather then in a fight.37884134The idea for this outfit came from the bow, obtainable at kindred status with the Rangers of Esteldin. Mixed with the lore is a bit of speculation on my part about the hunters and woodworkers. I like to explore the early legendarium, I hope speculation didn’t turn in rambling though hehe XD Ost Dunoth armour found a use again, is so versatile for outfitting! Also this time I am pleased by how the warsteed screenies turned out…. warsteeds movement is so clunky, I find it hard to get a nice action shot :/32942763 shoulders: Combat Armour of the Deep, white dye, crafted tier 9 medium

  1. Simple, functional, inconspicuous…such a wonderful outfit based on the lore for Elves and Hunters! I too have often wondered about the earlier days of Middle-earth. In fact, I’ve been reading the Silmarillion again in small pieces, trying to find some lore-inspired outfits myself!

By the way, I truly enjoyed seeing a Sindarin name for your weapon. I’m glad I’m not the only one who uses the language to generate something meaningful. An Elvish weapon doesn’t feel Elvish unless it has an appropriate name, at least in my eyes. 🙂

  2. thanks Nathrien 🙂 A weapon becomes appropriate for elves, dwarves etc. when a nice name accompanies it, indeed it is true 🙂
