Elven Hymn to Elbereth
Snow-white! Snow-white! O Lady clear!
O Queen beyond the Western Seas!
O light to us that wander here
Amid the world of woven trees!
Gilthoniel! O Elbereth!
Clear are thy eyes and bright thy breath!
Snow-white! Snow-white! We sing to thee
In a far land beyond the sea.
O Stars that in the Sunless Year
With shining hand by her were sown,
In windy fields now bright and clear
We see you silver blossom blown!
O Elbereth! Gilthoniel!
We still remember, we who dwell
In this far land beneath the trees,
Thy starlight on the Western Seas.
Elven Hymn to Elbereth is the song that the traveling Elves lead by Gildor Inglorion are singing when Frodo Baggins, Peregrin Took, and Sam Gamgee pass through the thicket near Woodhall in Shire. The book says that the song is in Sindarin, but the sound shapes itself in their heads into words and visions of beauty. Since last outfit was a “intricate” one, this time I chose to keep it simple. And slap one of the two new beorning shoulderpads on my elf characters! 😄 the appearance of the shoulders is reverse, so this same piece will appear on males with the look of the female beorning ones (while the piece originally is for males). The song has been rendered with actual music and vocals by the band Tolkien Ensemble. I’ll put a link below, and recommend to hear it, Tolkien Ensemble made some great renditions of all the songs that are in the Lotr trilogy.
