Champion of the Scuttledells

40-17The terrain of the Scuttledells of Mirkwood sports sparser forest among rocky hills, boxing exploration into twisting paths that criss-cross at different elevations. It is easy to become lost and never get out… on top of that, it is home to many giant spiders that year by year weaved their webs from tree to tree. Being trapped in them is certain doom, even for the most seasoned of Thranduil’s scouts. This champion among spider slayers however, welcomes a challenge. Armed with a pair of elven swords so sharp to cut the sticky webs in one single slash, keen eyes and sturdy, flexible armour to jump from treetop to treetop she scouts the Scuttledells in search of prey, camouflaged and with the cover of the night. The Great Spiders of Mirkwood have begun to stir again, and the Elves of Thranduil seek to learn the cause. What dire darkness has arisen within the wood to summon forth such evil? That is what she is hoping to find out.
20-62 10-36 58-40I have not used Mordor armour much, because most of it has some kind of glitch that warps the body structure of the avatars, plus as the recipes are bind on acquire and tied to reputation, a chore to collect. In this case, the boots make the legs bulky, but for the purpose of this outfit I used them anyway. The rope like details and swirly pattern served the look I was going for, sturdy armour yet still with a touch of fanciness. While the color scheme is dark, the quiver can’t be dyed but the swirls tie it with the rest. At least in my opinion XD54-6433-52

The House of the King

“Mighty was the array of the house of the king.”
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Book of Lost Tales Part Two, The Fall of Gondolin0344The House of the King was one of 12 noble houses of Gondolin, serving under the personal command of King Turgon. They wore white, gold and red, and their emblems were the moon, sun and the Scarlet Heart of Finwe Noleme. During the Fall of Gondolin, the King’s House stayed untouched until all the other houses were gathered at the Square of the Palace, for they had remained there during the fighting at the North Gate, their first order to safeguard the king. But after Gothmog the Lord of Balrogs was slain by Ecthelion of the Fountain, they hurled themselves upon the Orcs, and even slew two other Balrogs.19172344They forced one of the terrible Uruloki (fire-drakes) into the Fountain of the King, and it perished, though the water became suddenly malsane. Many of the king’s house were killed by the heat, the serpents, the enemy, and accidentally one another, for the steam that rose from the fountain obscured their view and they hit friend and foe alike. No more is said of this house, but they probably all perished with Turgon.3526I was a bit at a loss as I didn’t know how to represent the symbols of the house of the king. In lotro there are two cloaks, with a sun and a moon, but nothing heart shaped. And I really wanted to put the three symbols together, so I had to interpret the book’s description in a bit of abstract way :p The pvmp chest and leggings used here have a little sun ornament in the front, and the cloak I used with much imagination can resemble a scarlet heart. The moon in the background completed the scenes… I think I like this outfit, even if is far from what I really wanted to portray, but Lotro outfit system does have its limits5663shoulders: Lesser cry of the West shoulderguards, even dim blue dye, barter in Harndirion (Enedwaith)

The Bassoonist of Erebor – Beta outfit

185915232886 Among the Dwarves, several types of instruments are known to be used in their culture and traditional songs in Middle-earth. Thorin and Company most notably played a few at the unexpected party at Bag End:fiddle, flute, clarinet, drum, viol and Thorin himself had a unique golden harp. In The Hobbit is is said that instruments (harps particularly) were magical, crafted by themselves and always staying in tune. Bilbo himself was transported by the music Thorin’s Company produced during the unexpected meeting, reinforcing the belief some on these instrument might have some magic in them indeed. Being the great innovators as they are, I can imagine them not limiting themselves to the crafting and playing of the same regular instruments. Why this one dwarf here has in fact crafted his own version of the horn. “Bassoon” he called it, made of white birch wood and enameled with gold. So proud he is of his creation that he even wore matching white clothes for his first performance. Quite different in sound too, this bassoon has nothing of the long drawn notes a horn would make, its tone is actually quite brusque. A successful first performance, but the bard indulged in too much ale to celebrate, and ended up dancing on the table…
As the title says, this is an outfit I made on the beta server Bullroarer. As this round of beta is the last, we won’t have to wait long to be able to make outfits with these new cosmetics. One big gripe I have is that the cloak are almost all hooded… I rarely wear hooded cloaks, preferring to mix and match different headgear with hoodless cloaks. The new gear and cosmetics we’ll get all have a definite dwarven style to them, as U23 is all about dwarves and their culture.0285
